The Compass and the Rose
Proprietor, Hawkwood's Routiers
John Hawkwood’s reputation for military acumen and success on the battlefield is well-known and renowned; one of the few men in the realm to truly pull himself up by the bootstraps. Though he started life as a simple foot solider, he proved himself consistently in battle, and more importantly, he survived. Having no lands or title, his options for advancement were limited, so he chose the path of a mercenary, and proved himself as adept at managing his company of private soldiers as leading them in the field of battle.
No longer the young man he was, and with less need for large scale military forces, John Hawkwood has formed his guild of Routiers for smaller scale operations, private protection, policing, and investigations.
